Working Group Face to Face Meetings
at LSU, March 2004
Meeting Schedule:
Stochastic -- Saturday, March 13 starting 8:30 am
Stochastic -- Sunday, March 14
Inspiral -- March 13 and 14 see Gaby's web site
Burst -- Sunday, March 14 starting 9:30 am
A draft agenda can be found at
http://emvogil-3.mit.edu/~kats/protected/lsc_mar04/
(usual burst group username and password).
Sunday 10:11 local time: I will be trying to put URL pointers here as I get them. WJ
Szabi does not have his talk on line, but Eric may get it there in a while
10:59 local time. I notice that some of the talks now have URL's on Eric's F2F website,
http://emvogil-3.mit.edu/~kats/protected/lsc_mar04/.
Logistics:
All meetings will be in Nicholson Hall, newly renovated home of the Department of Physics and Astronomy,
whose website is here. Be careful, because the renovation is not
finished, and some areas are still construction zones.
Nicholson Hall is two long joined buildings oriented east-west. For orientation, the campus bell-tower or carillon
is north of Nicholson, the student union is to the east, and the quadrangle is to the west.
Room assignments:
Stochastic: Room 119, slightly above ground level, close to the quadrangle-side entrance.
Burst: Room 109, ditto
Inspiral: Room 273, one floor above ground level, close to student union-side doors.
- Go here for good driving directions to campus.
- Go here for a good perspective
view of the Campus, showing Nicholson Hall.
- Go here for a
poor map of all the parking areas on campus. Nicholson Hall is buildings 39 and 40 in this map,
room 237 is in building 40, across from the student union, rooms 109 and 119 are in building 39,
on the quadrangle side
- Parking: Because it is a weekend, and there is no football game,
parking should be easy, unless there is some big event that is not
on the schedule. Nicholson Hall is on Tower Drive, a street
parallel to Highland Ave, towards the west (and the stadium). There is
free parking available on campus all weekend (and weekdays between
4:30pm and 7am). Parking is allowed on streets unless it is indicated
as reserved (with yellow and blue curbs, or with signs); these are
indicated as red in the Parking map. There is a parking lot next to
Nicholson Hall with the entrance on Tower Drive, and another on the
other side of Nicholson Hall, in front of Coates hall also with an
entrance on Tower Drive. Both lots will be open during the
weekend. Parking lots are yellow in the parking map (Nicholson Hall
and East Coates Lot). There is a paid lot next to the Student Union
(building 38 in the parking map), and some other metered spaces too,
indicated as "visitor parking" in the parking map (although you
shouldn't need to resort to these spaces).
- The outside doors to the building are normally locked all weekend, so we shall have to
make some kind of special arrangement. On saturday and sunday morning, there will be two doors opened
by some means; the quadrangle entrance door (west side) and the south-east door facing the parking lot
and the geology building (close to the student union).
- All rooms should have a screen and a digital projector, and lots of power strips for charging your laptop.
- Phone arrangements: we have arranged a teleconference line for Sunday, for the burst group.
The number to call is 1-800-876-6944, and the access code is 577#. Email
Warren if the burst group is not on the line.
- Ethernet: there will be wireless and wired ethernet available, using DHCP. Wireless set up is preferred,
since we will have a limited number of cables. No MAC address will be required. We are going run setup
these routers for open public access, i.e. no encryption or password. Therefore you will want to use
your own encryption (ssh) for all connect ions to your own computers.
- Food: There will be full service at the Student Union on Saturday, and limited service on Sunday.
There is a selection of restaurants about 10 minutes walk, at the north gates of campus
(near the visitor's information building).
- ALLEGRO is up and running well, and can be visited by prior arrangement.
- There is a computer room with Linux and Windows workstations available.
- All the usual office equipment (printing, xerox, etc.), will be accessible to
Warren, Gaby, and Joe. No office personnel will be around.
- For urgent problems: try Warren Johnson's cellphone: 225-405-0334. I should be carrying it
most of the time.
